Summary: A cold blast from a mini-conditioner Comment: Had new windows installed, worked and looked great, but the openings were smaller than expected. Wanted a window air conditioner for the living room. Found one at Amazon that would fit, and the reviews were good. I wasn't prepared for how well it worked, however. This little guy pumps out an amazing amount of cold air. I think the secret is, it is an older unit that was made before the energy conserving engineers got a hold of it. Maybe I should feel bad that I am not helping the environment as much as I could, but keeping me cool during a hot and humid August, somehow made the guilt go away.
If you want the most bang for your buck, buy this unit. If it can keep my living room cool, it will turn a small bedroom into a meat locker, no sweat.

Summary: Small AC unit does a big job Comment: I purchased this AC unit Frigidaire FAX052P7A Window Unit Air Conditioner primarily for it's small size as I wanted to cool my basement where I have a large screen TV, office and computer, but I wanted to do so without the expense of cooling the whole house. I've tried a portable AC units that exhausted interior air out a window through a hose, but I found that causes warm outside air to be drawn into the house with the net effect of no cooling, only more electrical usage. A split AC system would be the answer, but they cost ten times as much as this small window AC unit.
To mount the AC unit I removed the basement window and made a mounting plate from half inch pressure treated plywood and attached it to the window frame with stainless steal screws to prevent rusting. I intend to leave the AC unit installed permanently and just cover it in the winter. The unit's air filter slides out of the right side of the front panel, so I offset the unit in the mounting plate to allow the filter to be removed for cleaning.
In testing the AC unit I turned it on high cool and measured an output temperature of 40 degrees Fahrenheit, which is good given the volume of air. After an hour of running the water being removed from the basement was dripping from the outside part of the unit, which is a good sign that it's functioning normally. Being a basement doesn't have the heat load of an above ground room, I expect this small AC unit will do an adequate job of cooling and dehumidifying my basement.
Durring the summer months I calculated that this unit will save me about $40 per month in electricty compared to runing a 12,000 BTU AC unit installed in a room at the top of the basement stairs that I have been using to cool the basement through convection, which required keeping that room at 63 degrees Fahrenheit. Thus, this AC unit should pay for itself in a single cooling season.

Summary: Nice lightweight machine that works! Comment: Package arrived quickly, well packaged. It is lightweight, relatively easy to move around, total shipping weight was listed as 45 lbs. Some minor assembly involved; a few screws. I haven't bothered to go past the low cool low fan setting; that works just fine for a 10x10 ft room with south and east facing exposure and a set of metal french doors in the middle of summer. It is louder than some AC window units and quieter than some, but it's not a problem in my office. The size is excellent, doesn't take up the whole window, easy to move around, doesn't stick out very far outside, and is nearly flush with the window frame inside; looks good too. It is easy to install for a single woman. Highly recommend if you're looking to cool a single room, or are a single woman with limited upper body strength.

Summary: Heat wave relief Comment: I placed two of these units in my manufactured home it is 1720 SQ ft.
I live in the North West where it rarely gets over 90 degrees. I turn the units on before work on hot days and when I come home it is very comfortable I use mine for occasional use and they seem to work just fine. They were very easy to install. I have vinyl windows and I had to block up the front to get them to fit snug. Great value for my application no regrets.

Summary: wonderful Comment: This unit is perfect for my small apartment. Made my living room into a refrigerator. Love it! The cooling and fan are adjustable, so I am able to set it where I want it. My landlord will not let me hang it out the window, so I have it up next to to the open window. Does not affect its cooling. I have windows that slide side to side but it fits in just right.
