Summary: A cold blast from a mini-conditioner
Comment: Had new windows installed, worked and looked great, but the openings were smaller than expected. Wanted a window air conditioner for the living room. Found one at Amazon that would fit, and the reviews were good. I wasn't prepared for how well it worked, however. This little guy pumps out an amazing amount of cold air. I think the secret is, it is an older unit that was made before the energy conserving engineers got a hold of it. Maybe I should feel bad that I am not helping the environment as much as I could, but keeping me cool during a hot and humid August, somehow made the guilt go away.

If you want the most bang for your buck, buy this unit. If it can keep my living room cool, it will turn a small bedroom into a meat locker, no sweat.

Summary: Good unit for the price
Comment: For the price, this unit is pretty decent. It does a good job at cooling small bedrooms or offices. My only real complaint is that it is quite loud. There are different cooling settings and while the lower ones are much quieter, they don't do very much to cool the room. All in all, I'm satisfied with the unit.

Summary: Mostly great
Comment: This air conditioner is great for small rooms. I hate that it doesn't have a remote control but its a small matter. The only thing that annoys me is the vent that is located on the top of the air conditioner outside. rain just pours right in and does leave, but if you turn on the air conditioner after it's been off during a rainstorm or shortly after, you get this.... watery.... trickily noise. It's rather loud. Once again, small matter. just turn the fan on before it starts raining alot and it's no problem. I think it has to do with water getting in and sitting there but if the fan is running it doesn't have a chance to sit.

Good AC for the price. Just make sure you have some extra wood and old clothes to fit in the window because the unit is obviously small.

Summary: cool deal!
Comment: I recently moved into an old house with no central air. The summers here are mighty humid and hot, with temps of 100 degrees during the worst of it. I purchased this little window unit because it's cheap and easy to install.

After running the air conditioner for about three hours (on high), the bedroom will be fairly cool, but I'm not sure how it's doing on humidity. I never see any water dripping outside, but you can hear the water slurping around in the back of the unit.

However, this 5,000 BTU a/c will never get the room cold, cold, cold. The room space is 12' by 13' with 9' ceilings and while it (eventually) will get the air feeling comfy, it doesn't make it bitter cold. Even if it runs all night on high, max temp, it never gets the room past "comfy cold."

And it's noisy. I don't mind some white noise so I'm able to sleep even when the thing is blaring away but some folks might be disturbed by the loud fan motor.

For the money, it's a good deal and it'll keep you from going stark-raving mad when the dog days of summer hit. But it *is* very cheaply made. The unit arrives partially disassembled (which surprised me). The top bar and side pleats have to be installed. The styrofoam shipping blocks in the vents are nearly impossible to get out. Ick.

And those accordian pleats on the side can't possibly last more than a couple years. They're thin and light and I was afraid of breaking them whilst doing the install! (Pass the duct tape, please.) The shroud inside the unit (where the cold air blows) is lined with chincy-looking plastic and styrofoam. Short of making it out of corrugated cardboard, I don't believe it'd be possible to make this unit any more cheaply. But if it lasts for a couple years, I'll be a happy camper.

One last note, this has the LOWEST efficiency rating of any unit on the market. You get what you pay for.

I bought three of these units so I could survive the summer, so I guess I've voted with my wallet.

Summary: Cools but extraordinarily loud. Does not work well in rain.
Comment: This air conditioner is used for a dorm unit of about 150 sq ft. Despite that the unit cools the room quickly and well, it is extremely noisy. The front plastic cage will rattle perpetually. When raining, the unit's fan will sound sluggish, wet, and will cause the unit to be noisier. Though cheap, I would not recommend this unit for a dorm.
